Gov't ordered to set aside Ksh.105M to compensate victims of torture, abduction

Justice Gregory Mutai issued the order pending the hearing and determination of a petition challenging the authentication process introduced by the government to verify victims in compliance with Presidential Proclamation No. 1 of 2026.

The court also issued conservatory orders restraining the first and second respondents from implementing, applying or acting on the disputed authentication process.

However, the court allowed the compensation process involving other victims to proceed once the h105 million has been set aside.

The judge said the amount must be protected specifically for victims of enforced disappearances, torture and abductions pending the determination of the petition.
