Speaking at the event at Cityhall, Governor Sakaja emphasized that the initiative is aimed at creating a more conducive, dignified, and equitable learning environment for young learners throughout the city.
“ECDE is the most critical stage in any child’s educational journey. It lays the foundation for everything that follows. We are not just issuing furniture to our children—we are reaffirming our commitment to give them a dignified, nurturing, and equitable start in life," he said.
The Governor noted that the furniture distribution was guided by a rigorous needs assessment, aimed at ensuring that the most underserved centres benefit first. He acknowledged that many ECDE centres have long faced challenges due to a lack of basic infrastructure, including proper seating and tables.
“This is not a random act—it is a targeted intervention based on data and real needs,” he said.
Governor Sakaja also highlighted the success of the county’s “Dishi na County” school feeding programme, crediting it with increasing school enrolment, reducing absenteeism, and fostering a stronger sense of equality among learners.
“The impact of our school feeding programme is clear. It has restored dignity to our children and has played a key role in boosting enrolment in both ECDE centres and primary schools,” he stated.
