Machakos Governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua, has  suspended his county financial officers over alleged mismanagement of county resources.

Dr. Mutua ordered the affected officers to proceed on an indefinite leave effective today (August 18).

Dr. Mutua, who was the first Governor to be sworn in after the August 8 General Election, stormed the county offices taking all workers by surprise, an event that led to the suspension of 437 workers in the Finance and Treasury docket.

Speaking at the County headquarters in the company of his deputy, Francis Maliti, Mutua said he learnt a lot from  the unfaithful workers who were used by his political detractors to bring him down.

Machakos County Chief Executive Committee Member for Finance and Revenue Collection, Elizabeth Mutheu Nzyoka, was asked to relocate her office and work from Governor Mutua’s office.

According to the re-elected Governor, their indefinite dismissal is a novel strategy to audit and probe financial accounts in the County to see if the workers have been dipping into the County’s coffers.

The workers, under police supervision, were asked to remove all their personal items from the office, go home and will be brought back according to need basis.

The Governor will carry out the exercise in other departments across all the eight sub-counties to purge out errant  workers, saying it will only be a matter of time before his entire government will be cleaned up.
