Principal Secretary for the East African Community (EAC) Affairs, Dr Caroline Karugu, has underscored the strategic importance of the Isebania–Sirari One-Stop Border Post (OSBP), describing it as a key gateway for regional trade within the East African Community (EAC).

In a statement following a meeting with Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, Dr Karugu said discussions focused on strengthening efforts to eliminate Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) that continue to hinder cross-border trade within Migori County.

“The Isebania-Sirari One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) is a vital link to our regional markets. My meeting with Governor Ochilo today progressed the agenda of eliminating NTBs in Migori County. Migori is a critical gateway to the EAC,” she said.

The Isebania–Sirari OSBP, which straddles the Kenya–Tanzania border, is one of the busiest entry points in the region and plays a significant role in facilitating the movement of goods and people between the two countries. It is widely regarded as a critical node in advancing trade integration under the EAC framework.

The engagement between the national government and county leadership comes amid renewed efforts to enhance efficiency at border points and reduce delays caused by administrative and regulatory barriers that affect traders and transporters.
