Former Gor Mahia assistant coach and SportPesa Premier League side Nairobi City Stars boss, John ‘Bobby’ Ogolla, has revealed he quit his role at the side he helped seal the title last season because he felt overlooked in favour of foreign coaches.

Bobby who ended his 14-year stay at Gor at the end of last season walked out in search of a fresh challenge due to what he felt was the club’s preferential treatment of outsiders.

“I can’t remember any time that Gor struggled during my stay at the club. Even prior to my departure things were looking good for them. I, however, do not understand why a foreign coach should be paid more for the same job I do,” Ogolla told Citizen Digital.

The veteran tactician nicknamed the Six Million Dollar man lamented he was tired of being treated like a beggar although he holds no grudges with his former employers whom he enjoyed a distinguished career and forced them to a 2-2 draw in the second match of the SPL season.

City Stars sit two points above K’Ogalo in position 11 after stunning Mathare United 2-0 on Wednesday to knock them off the top of the table.

Ogolla is enjoying life at the Kawangware-based side and hopes to transform the team from seasoned relegation-candidates to title contenders.

“I like to tell my players the truth. They find inspiration from my football history and obey my words. They are young boys so they’re very eager to learn,” he asserted.

City Stars face in-form league leaders AFC Leopards on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium and the former Kenyan international is upbeat they can halt their impressive run of form.

“Playing against Leopards is a motivation, just as playing Mathare or Gor. It’s a big match so we hope we can entertain our fans,” he proclaimed.
