Former Kenyan international defender and football manager John Bobby Ogolla has expressed disappointment over the ongoing conflicts within the country's football federation.
FKF has been marred by leadership
wrangles pitting President Hussein Mohamed against his deputy MacDonald Mariga
and eight other National Executive Committee members, with allegations of
embezzlement of Ksh43 million CHAN insurance funds at the centre of the fresh
tensions.
''Football has turned into
politics and it is very sad,” Ogolla, fondly known as the ‘Six-Million-Dollar
Man’, said. “When these leaders want to enter office they always come with very
nice words and then once they enter the leadership the intrigues begin. Someone
like Hussein Mohammed has supported the game of football for many years through
Extreme Sports, so we are very surprised to start hearing allegations of lost
money now. Also let us not forget that allegations of lost money have not
started today; we have heard them in the past like during the time of Sam
Nyamweya and even Nick Mwendwa. Why should this 'lost' money not be put into
football to strengthen the game, even if not for the national teams but at the
grassroots level?'' wondered Ogolla.
Ogolla also questioned the lack of unity among key football leaders in Kenya, expressing his frustration over the developments.
"And apart from that, we
have Hussein and his deputy is MacDonald Mariga who has played football at the
top level. You wonder why they don't just work together to develop
football."
