Detectives in Githurai have arrested a man who had been on the run following the fatal stabbing of his wife in a tragic incident that occurred on June 14, 2026, in Mwihoko, Kiambu County.

Elizabeth Wambui, 47, died after a domestic altercation erupted at her shop in the Delta area of Mwihoko Township.

According to a report lodged at Mwihoko Police Station, the confrontation turned violent when her husband allegedly stabbed her on the right side of the chest with a spearhead, inflicting injuries that proved fatal before he fled the scene.

Officers responded swiftly and found Wambui lying in a pool of blood, bleeding profusely. She was rushed to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH), where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Her body has since been moved to Kenyatta University Funeral Home, pending a postmortem examination.

At the crime scene, investigators recovered the murder weapon, a bloodstained spearhead, which has been secured as an exhibit.

A manhunt was immediately launched for the suspect, 59-year-old Charles Maina Karungae Kibue, who fled immediately after the attack. Officers acting on forensic leads tracked him to a hideout in Kayole, where he was arrested.

Kibue is now in custody undergoing processing pending arraignment.
