Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has welcomed the ongoing probe by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on eight senior officials on allegations of siphoning public funds.

This comes after the commission conducted raids on the offices and houses of the county officials in question, carting away documents deemed crucial in the ongoing probe.

Governor Jama has vowed to cooperate with the agency in the fight against corruption to ensure public resources are well utilised, adding that his administration has nothing to hide as far as the utilisation of county funds is concerned.

He said that the operation has been blown out of proportion with alot of misinformation shared through social media, misleading the public.

He urged the youths to use social platforms positively instead of using it to spread falsehood and unverified information that creates tension amongst the locals.

So far three officials in the probe have recorded statements with the EACC.

The inquiry was undertaken following a court order allowing the commission to investigate the eight officials of the Garissa County government, their proxies and companies associated with them for engaging in business with the county government.
