It was a family affair during the second round of the Shell AutoX Rally Championship that took place at Stoni Athi in Machakos County on Sunday 17, May.

All the drivers in the different classes raced in a practice run before competing in four heats with the best of three results deciding the winner in each category.

Allan Bengi topped the Beta Junior Buggy clocking 14.18 minutes while Eann Bengi was best in the Cadet Junior Buggy in 12.44 minutes.

Meanwhile, Aman Ganatra won in the 4wd with 35mm restrictors posting a time of 11.45 minutes while Altaf Ganatra placed second in the 2wd non-turbo class that was won by Michuki Hinga in 12.46 minutes.

“It was a fantastic day of racing at Stoni Athi. The competition was extremely strong across all categories. Winning the 2WD Non-Turbo class is a proud moment for the team, and it reflects the hard work and preparation that has gone in behind the scenes,” said Hinga.

The Open Class was a closely fought affair with Javed Lota clocking 12.03 minutes a mere seven seconds ahead of Junaid Shah and 26 seconds ahead of Ahil Khan.

The Stoni Athi meet boasted the cream of Kenyan rallying over the years as well as the upcoming stars of the future.

Veteran rally driver Ian Duncan was second in the 2wd Turbo Buggy while mother and daughter duo of Tinashe and Caroline Gatimu placed third in the 4wd with 35mm restrictors.
