Champions Gor Mahia have parted ways with goalkeeper Gad Mathew following the expiry of his contract, club administrative secretary Roanld Ngala has said.

Ngala further stated that the technical bench has compiled a list of potential goalkeepers to replace the departing experienced shotstopper. AFC Leopards goalie Francis Katasi is among those being considered, sources familier with the developments divulged to Citizen.Digital.

“Gad’s contract was running out and the technical bench was not keen on his services for the new season. We have thus released him at the recommendation of the head coach,” he explained.

Meanwhile, our sources indicate that Equity FC's National Super League golden boot winner, Michael Onyango, could be on his way to the ‘Green Army’.

Ngala said that a number of players will also be released upon the expiry of their contracts, at the recommendation of the head coach, noting that this will be made public soon.

‘’We are soon unveiling our new signings. We will also make open the players we are setting free at the expiry of their contracts , and who the technical bench will not require for the new season.”

Our sources indicate that a good number of players are departing the club including Christopher Ochieng, Bryson Wangai, Fidel Origa among others.

Some of the foreign legion are also reportedly leaving after the official departure of last season’s Most Valuable Player, Enock Morrison, who has joined Sudanese side Al Merrick SC.

Morrison whose contract had run out with Gor joined the Sudanese side as a free agent. Gor Mahia will represent the country in the CAF Champions League, which will commence shortly after the CECAFA Club Championships slated for Rwanda in August.

According to Ngala, the overhaul is intended to bolster the squad ahead of the CAF Champions League assignments after missing out on the continental duties last season after finishing trophy-less the previous term.

Last season Gor missed out on the continental arena after losing the league title to Kenya Police and the FKF Cup to Nairobi United.
