Gachagua declares presidential bid, allies warn against divisions in opposition

Fellow party leaders who accompanied the former deputy president on a tour of Kiambu County threatened to sever ties with some constituent parties under the 'One Term' bandwagon, accusing them of undermining the role and leadership of the DCP leader.

While officially opening DCP offices in Kiambu County, Gachagua declared that he is the leading contender within the united opposition to unseat President Ruto, citing what he described as his strong support base in the Mt. Kenya region.

"Niko tayari na kura milioni 7 kutoka kwa kaunti 5 pekee ikiwemo Kakamega... na sijaongeza Murang'a... ni mimi naweza Kasongo... wangapi wanasema Riggy G anatosha kuwa rais wa Kenya?" Gachagua said.

His party lieutenants backed Gachagua's latest declaration ahead of next year's presidential election.

"Sisi tumeona Rigathi tosha kuwa rais… na ticket ni Riggy G na Sifuna… mimi naenda kuleta Sifuna aungane na Riggy G," said DCP Deputy Party leader Cleophas Malala.

"Hii watu yote wanataka kusaliti jamii nikisema fagia mna fagia," acting DCP Sec Gen John Methu stated.

Kiambu Senator Karungo Thangwa added, "Wale watu tuko nao United Opposition wameanza kuleta mchezo."

Murang'a Senator Joe Nyutu on his part said, "Wewe Matiang'i unawacha Kibagendi na Onyonka wadharau Riggy G... hiyo inaamanisha umenunuliwa na Kasongo... we are ready to cut ties."

The DCP leader also assured police officers and other civil servants volunteering information to the opposition that their identities would be protected.

"We will protect you and we have a way of keeping information safe like the Mau Mau era," said Gachagua.

Kanini Kega added, "Wewe DCI kwanza shika wahusika wote wa uhalifu ndiyo uingilie mambo ya Gachagua kufichua wahalifu."
