Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has expressed gratitude to the people of Ol Kalou Constituency following the election of the party's candidate, Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, as the area's new Member of Parliament, describing the outcome as a historic milestone for the party.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Kamau the winner after he garnered 35,440 votes, defeating United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga, who received 5,450 votes.

Jubilee Party candidate Wilson Kigwa finished third with 198 votes, followed by Stephen Wanyoike Waithaka (NLP) with 103 votes, Timothy Kamau Kariuki (PM) with 51, Edwin Kariiri Muchiri (PNU) with 28, Abdifatah Hussein Abdullahi (FPK) with 19, Edward Mathenge Mwaniki (KMM) with 16, and Rachael Wangui Njoroge (PDP) with 11 votes.

In a statement, Gachagua congratulated Kamau on his victory, saying the decisive win reflected the will of the electorate.

"You have won by a resounding margin, reflecting the unmistakable voice of the people. We thank the Almighty God for this great victory," Gachagua said.

He thanked Ol Kalou residents for electing DCP's first Member of the National Assembly, saying the voters had resisted inducements and remained steadfast in protecting their democratic choice.

"Thank you, my great people, for refusing to sell your birthright and for being wise enough not to fall for the deception of development projects. Thank you a million times for guarding your vote and for standing firm despite the actions of rogue police officers armed with guns and tear gas," he said.

Gachagua described Kamau's election as an addition to the party's support in Parliament, saying it would strengthen DCP's voice.

"I have been struggling with 18 soldiers but with great results; now I have 19, things will be much better," he said, adding that the new MP would join what he termed as the party's efforts in defending the interests of Kenyans.

The former Deputy President also commended the people of Ol Kalou for what he described as restoring the dignity of both their community and the country through the by-election outcome.

"I feel proud and elated to be the leader of such patriotic people who remain loyal to their rights and dignity," he said.

Gachagua further praised the party's campaign leadership, singling out Nyandarua Senator John Methu and Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia for steering the three-month campaign, alongside allied senators, Members of Parliament, MCAs, volunteers, aspirants and campaign teams.

He announced that he will tour all five wards of Ol Kalou Constituency on Friday to thank residents for their support, saying the visit was in response to the wishes of the community.

Gachagua also urged the newly elected MP to serve the people diligently and effectively represent their interests in the National Assembly.
