Wetangula warns opposition against attacks on IEBC

He argued that the opposition should not set terms for the electoral commission, as they cannot choose a "referee for a football match."

"Since the general election, we have had ten by-elections. Kenya Kwanza has won six. Our colleagues won one civic seat. When they won, they clapped, saying 'we have taught them a lesson.' They didn't say the IEBC was bad. But now they start saying the IEBC is bad, I don't know what it has done, it has done..." said Wetangula. 

The Speaker also urged opponents to cease using abusive language. 

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua had on Wednesday accused IEBC of laying the groundwork for a rigged election through a digital system allegedly tailored for a South Korean firm Miru Systems.

The commission would later dispute Gachagua's claim, insisting that the procurement process is open, transparent and above board.

IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon said no company, including Miru Systems Ltd, had been awarded the tender.

In a statement, Ethekon dismissed claims that the tender specifications for the supply, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning, support and maintenance of the Integrated Elections Management System had been tailor-made for Miru Systems Ltd.
