Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a blistering attack on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, accusing him of organising and financing the very criminals he publicly warned Kenyans about during a press briefing Wednesday evening.

Gachagua said Murkomen's remarks, in which the CS disclosed he had intelligence reports showing goons were being mobilised to commit crimes, had only deepened public suspicion about the government's role in planned violence.

"I am vindicated," Gachagua said in a statement. "Kenyans are more convinced than ever before that my position has all along been true and factual; we have the most clueless Minister in charge of security since independence."

The former Deputy President challenged Murkomen to explain why, having admitted prior knowledge of organised criminal activity, he had taken no action to pre-empt it.

"If he is aware of their plans, why can't he stop them? Is he unwilling to stop them or he lacks capacity, or what does he want ordinary Kenyans to do if he is crying as the CS for Interior?" Gachagua posed.

He further questioned why Murkomen had stopped short of giving categorical assurances that police would protect property and prevent violence, accusing the CS of deliberately deflecting accountability.

Gachagua alleged the entire episode was scripted, describing a pattern in which state-linked goons would be allowed to cause destruction while police stood aside, only to later arrest opposition figures on charges of inciting violence.

"The police have clear instructions to allow goons wreck havoc and only intervene later by arresting innocent people," he said, adding that there would be "stage-managed attacks" on government-aligned leaders designed to generate sympathy and shift blame onto the opposition.

He also raised concern over what he described as a breakdown in the independence of the National Police Service, arguing that Murkomen had overstepped his mandate by weighing in on operational matters that legally fall under the Inspector General.

"The National Police Service is supposed to be independent. The Minister should comment on policy. The IG is in charge of operations. Why is Mr. Murkomen discussing police operations?" he asked.

Gachagua accused the CS of creating a parallel command structure and forcing police commanders to work alongside criminal elements, saying the government's goons moved openly alongside police -- a fact he said was not lost on ordinary Kenyans.

He closed with a pointed warning, invoking the International Criminal Court.

"Mr. Murkomen, do your work. Do not forget that ICC is beckoning you and your masters," he said.
