The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has revealed that a total of Ksh 1.8 billion was lost at the National Youth Service (NYS).

Speaking when he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee on Thursday, September 29, EACC CEO, Halakhe Waqo, said that they are dealing with 13 cases involving the NYS, aside from the ongoing cases on the loss of Ksh 791 million.

“We have issues with procurement irregularities where Ksh 47.6 million was lost, while Ksh 17 million was embezzled in the Mukuru kwa Njenga and Korogocho slum projects established by NYS.”

He said that three people have being charged over allegations that former NYS Director General, Nelson Githinji’s, vehicles were being serviced using NYS funds.

Other areas of investigation include consultancy services and the loss of Ksh 791 million where several assets have been frozen.
