Fortune Sacco Head Coach Silvester Odero dies in road crash

Silvester Odero, the head coach of Fortune Sacco Football Club has died after a road accident in Mwea, Kirinyaga County. 

Odero, who also worked as a teacher at Nyaikungu secondary school died on Monday morning after his car plunged into river Kanaro at Kangiciri village in Kirinyaga County.

According to the police , the teacher was driving his vehicle and was accompanied by Julius Mutiso, a sports officer from Kirinyaga. He was heading towards Kagio from Ngurubani direction, when he  lost control at Kangiciri village  and plunged into river Kanaro. Mutiso escaped unhurt

Kangiciri village elder David Mugane said they were woken by a loud crashing sound at around 3 am and after they rushed to the river, they met a County sports officer crying for help.

Kangiciri villagers led by Simon Mwangi are now requesting the contractor who is tarmacking  Ngurubani -Kangiri road to install metal barriers along river Kanaro.

“This is not the first accident,” Mwangi said.

Sports fans in Kirinyaga were shocked by the death of the coach.

Police officers said Mutiso escaped unhurt and the vehicle which was extensively damaged was towed to Sagana police station to wait for inspection.
