The family of former Matungu constituency Member of Parliament David Were is suspecting foul play in the death of their kin, who was reportedly robbed and killed in the wee hours of Sunday in Kisumu.

A postmortem report conducted on Tuesday at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) revealed that the 39-year-old Hannington Were died of excessive bleeding.

The report stated that he suffered three stab wounds in his back, which had penetrated major organs in his body, such as the lungs.

The former legislator, who spoke to journalists on Tuesday afternoon at Kwee funeral home at JOOTRH, however, noted that they suspect a different motive for the murder.

Reports indicated that two armed men on a motorbike attacked Hannington and his friend shortly after he left his house at around midnight.

Hannington was later rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to the stab wounds.

"He was rushed to the hospital around 2:30am and I was told he had stab wounds in his back," the former MP told the press on Sunday.
