Former Gem MP Joe Donde has been summoned over allegations that he hired staff irregularly.

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission(EACC) the hiring allegedly took place during the financial year 2016/17 and 2017/18.

Donde, who is the Siaya County Public Service Board Chairman, has been ordered to appear before the anti-graft body in Kisumu on Tuesday, February 26.

In a letter dated February 18, EACC Regional Manager Ignatius Wekesa said Donde must appear in person to answer several queries.

He is expected to explain how the county employed people without academic credentials and awarded them salaries without following proper guidelines.

Mr Wekesa told CitizenDigital that the commission was acting on a petition from a lobby group which wanted the county government investigated over the alleged irregular appointments.

He also confirmed that members of the public had raised concerns over the employments.

Wekesa further said that they required the board to avail original documents such as advertisement for the various positions and the list of applicants who applied as well as a Board report in respect to the interviews.
