FKF boss Mohammed extends olive branch after FIFA reprieve

Speaking at Serena Hotel in Nairobi on Tuesday as a reaction to world football governing body FIFA decision to quash his ouster, Mohammed rallied all stakeholders to forge a unified front in their quest to salvage the ailing game.

The meeting also saw deliberation about the future of the league, Hussein saying the federation wants to avoid repeating the same difficulties experienced in previous seasons as preparations begin for the 2026/2027 campaign.

He said the meeting was important in helping FKF understand why Kenyan football continues to face recurring challenges and how leaders can come up with better long-term plans for the sport.

“We want to find lasting solutions for the 2026/2027 season so that we do not continue going through the same challenges we have faced before,” he said.

While addressing FIFA’s stance regarding his ouster bid, Mohammed underlined the body’s strict adherence to the rule of law and the need for the local stakeholders to follow suit.

“FKF cannot tolerate impunity or smearing because the FIFA family adheres to the rules and constitution and will not bend or break any regulations,” he stated.

He noted that football should remain a unifying factor in the country instead of creating divisions among stakeholders and urged all members of the sports ecosystem to join hands in helping the sport grow.

Hussein also expressed optimism about the future of the local league, saying this season saw increased competition especially towards the end of the campaign.He further said FKF hopes to attract more sponsors to support the growth of Kenyan football and thanked the government for the support it has continued to give the federation.

The FKF boss added that the country should expect new challenges as Kenya prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, especially around stadium infrastructure and availability of venues and that they are already working around the clock to identify and prepare alternative venues that can help support football activities during the preparations.
