Detectives from the DCI's Crime Research and Investigation Bureau have arrested five suspects following a horrific double murder in Igamba Ng'ombe, Tharaka Nithi County.

The arrests come after an intense manhunt following an attack on May 21 at a homestead in Tonto village. A gang of six men, armed with crude weapons and firearms, stormed the home of Vivian Wawira Nyaga, launching a deadly terror on the victims at the homestead.

During the night ordeal, 32-year-old David Muchiri was hacked at the entrance of the compound and suffered deep cuts to the head.

The assailants then fired multiple gunshots into the air to scare neighbours before breaking into the main house. Inside, 68-year-old Deborah Muthoni Nyagah was fatally attacked.

Two other individuals, Dancan Namu, suffered severe neck injuries, and Shadrack Lungumen, a watchman, was struck in the leg.

Police are currently interrogating the 5 men as they pursue the 6th assailant, who remains at large. Detectives are also hoping to recover weapons used in the attack, as well as establish the motive
