Farmers in Mtito Andei, Makueni County, are counting losses after a herd of elephants invaded their farms.

The most affected villages are Kivwauni, Lukenya and Nhunguni in Kibwezi East.

Locals said the elephants have destroyed crops and other vegetation in the region.

The elephants were seen roaming through farms and nearby residential areas on Monday, disrupting normal activities and sparking fears for the safety of schoolchildren and residents.

Local leaders have reported the incident to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and other relevant authorities, calling for urgent intervention to drive the animals back to their habitat and prevent further destruction.
