Family seeks justice after girl, 20, allegedly raped, murdered in Migori

According to the family, Yvonne Akinyi, 20, had been sent to a market in Awendo town on Monday but never returned home, prompting a search.

The deceased's uncle Andu Abade said that they found Akinyi's body dumped near the sugarcane farm. They believe that she was raped before being killed by her attackers.

Adade further appealed to the police to investigate the matter and bring the killers to book, calling for the heightening of police patrols in the area to avoid the reoccurrence of a similar incident.

"It is now the police investigating the matter but we are asking for a speedy investigation into the matter to find the killers who have done this heinous act," he said. 

Confirming the incident, Awendo sub-county police commander Mathias Pombo said they are yet to identify the killers but a manhunt has already been launched.

Mr. Pombo also appealed to the members of the public to provide any lead information related to the whereabouts of the suspects. 

Meanwhile, police are conducting patrols in the area in a bid to avert such killings.
