The body of Dennis Githinji was discovered on Sunday, about 500 metres from his family’s homestead. His parents, Stephen Munene and Margaret Wanjiru, said they are devastated by the killing and are demanding answers over the circumstances surrounding his death.
“He was killed on Sunday, just a short distance from our home,” the family said, expressing shock and grief.
Githinji’s cousin, Victor Muriithi, raised concerns over items found at the scene, saying a new suit had been placed near the body. “We want to know why he was killed and why a new suit was put near his body,” Muriithi said, adding that the family is seeking justice.
However, the deceased’s grandmother, Eunice Wanja Mwangi, claimed that her grandson had previously been involved in theft, suggesting that angry residents may have taken the law into their own hands. She alleged that even the suit found at the scene may have been stolen.
Muriithi disputed these claims, insisting that Githinji had reformed and did not deserve to be killed. “This was a plan to frame him,” he said. “We want justice for the murder of Dennis Githinji.”
The circumstances of the killing remain unclear, and the family has called on authorities to conduct thorough investigations.
Dennis Githinji is scheduled to be laid to rest today in Kariko village, Kirinyaga Central Constituency.
