The announcement was made through the club's official platforms, confirming that Okere succeeds Bernard Mwalala, who took charge of the Dockers in January this year following the departure of Moroccan coach Mohammed Borji.
"We are delighted to announce the appointment of Charles Okere as the new Head Coach of Bandari FC."
"Charles takes charge of the senior team as we embark on an exciting new chapter. We look forward to a journey built on ambition, hard work, and a shared commitment to restoring Bandari FC to the top," the club said in a statement.
Okere arrives at Mbaraki with an impressive coaching career. As assistant coach to Robert Matano at Tusker FC, he played a key role in guiding the Brewers to Football Kenya Premier League titles during the 2020/21 season and again in 2023.
He later stepped into the role of head coach at Tusker, where he kept the Brewers firmly in the title race, with the club remaining just one point behind the league leaders during the closing stages of the campaign.
Before joining Bandari, Okere also served as head coach of the Kenya women's national team, Harambee Starlets, adding valuable national team experience to his coaching credentials.
Outgoing coach Bernard Mwalala leaves after steering Bandari to the semi-finals of the FKF Cup and a 12th-place finish in the 2025/26 FKF Premier League season with 44 points.
Mwalala returned to Bandari in January 2026 when the club was struggling in 14th place and quickly stabilized the team, overseeing an impressive unbeaten run that lifted the Dockers away from the relegation zone.
His previous spell at Bandari remains one of the most successful in the club's history. In 2019, he guided the Dockers to their historic FKF Cup title before leading them to the CAF Confederation Cup, where they reached the final preliminary round before being eliminated by Guinea's Horoya AC.
Mwalala also led Bandari to back-to-back second-place finishes in the FKF Premier League, mounting strong title challenges against record champions Gor Mahia.
