Preparations for the May 14 by-elections in Emurua Dikirr Constituency, Porro Ward and Endo Ward have entered the final stretch after the IEBC received ballot papers and statutory forms ahead of Thursday’s mini polls.

The commission said it received three pallets containing ballot papers and election forms at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, with the materials destined for the parliamentary by-election in Emurua Dikirr, Narok County, and the MCA contests in Porro Ward in Samburu County and Endo Ward in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

“The ballot papers have arrived, we have three pallets of them which we are taking to the national warehouse for subsequent dispatch to the electoral areas. The preparations are ready and logistics done,” said Josphat Mulitikwa, who is in charge of electoral logistics at IEBC.

He said breaking bulk would be done on Wednesday to allow polling stations to receive ballot papers by Wednesday evening.

“The breaking of bulk will be done on Wednesday so that by polling stations by Wednesday evening will get their ballot papers,” Mulitikwa said.

IEBC Vice Chair Fahima Araphat Abdallah said the commission is fully prepared for the by-elections.

“Even for these elections we are fully prepared… and are looking forward to ensuring we have a successful by-election,” she said.

She also said the commission has engaged the National Treasury over funding, expressing optimism that resources will be available ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“We are good and have presented our budget… we are in communication with them,” Abdallah said.

IEBC said it is in the final stages of validating and launching its 2024–2029 Strategic Plan and is holding stakeholder forums ahead of the 2027 polls.
