Terming the country’s young people as ‘helpless’, Elachi linked their struggles to leadership failure, moral decay and systematic failure.
“Father, we have left our country, our young people in helplessness—in gambling, in pornography and it is us to change the laws,” she prayed.
Elachi’s prayer turned into a public confession on behalf of the country’s leadership. She asked God to forgive the three arms of the government who have failed in their respective duties calling out the widespread corruption, poor governance and abuse of public trust.
“We confess as leaders that you gave us a privilege, and we took it as a right. We changed the laws. We compromised our needs, our airports, our waters and our boundaries. We have loved money beyond it,” she submitted.
The Dagoretti North MP also expressed sorrow in the failure of parents to guide and instill discipline in their children saying, “We became parents that were unable. We felt that it was good for our children to be who they are. Today, they have rebelled. We are now crying as parents—Father, forgive us.”
She prayed for restoration of integrity in governance, protection of public infrastructure, and an end to what she termed a culture of tenders and maintenance contracts that waste public resources.
“We have become a country of tenders, but we don’t do the right thing. We misuse our own resources and then lament. Father, forgive us.”
Elachi also mentioned the misuse of social media saying, “We pray that this social media that has decided to run our country, that spirit my Father in heaven we want to confess as religious leaders that indeed we must sort out that sector. And Father we shall have courage to stand and believe in what is good for the country, what is good for our generation, what is good for the future of Kenya.”
She lifted prayers for the President, his cabinet, and the people working in government offices. She asked for divine order, clarity of purpose, and protection from sabotage and selfish interests.
“For those who implement in the Executive how we pray for them father that they will stop sabotaging the President, but will do what is rightful Father. That you can do what is rightful by ensuring you are in an office not just the seat.”
The prayer breakfast was charged with prayers, petitions and plea for forgiveness.
Here, President William Ruto extended an olive branch to the Kenyan youth, who have maintained a sour relationship with the ruling administration since a national uproar in 2024 over high taxation and frail leadership.
"To our children if there is any misstep, we apologize. We want to build a relationship that will make our country great," Ruto stated.
