The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has signed a
memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Youth Council in a move
aimed at strengthening the role of young people in the fight against corruption
and the promotion of good governance.
The agreement, signed on Thursday, sets the stage for
structured engagement between the Commission and the youth on efforts to
prevent and combat corruption, promote ethics, and build a culture of integrity
across the country.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, EACC Chairperson Bishop
David Oginde underscored the importance of the collaboration, noting that young
people and the wider society continue to bear the brunt of corruption and poor
governance.
He cited the youth’s energy, creativity, and numbers as a
critical asset in confronting the vice, challenging them to actively champion
integrity and take leadership in building an honest society.
According to the Commission, the MoU provides a framework for
joint initiatives such as awareness campaigns, information sharing, policy
review, and capacity building.
It also seeks to empower young people to become active
participants in promoting accountability and transparency at all levels.
Youth Affairs and Creative Economy Principal Secretary
Fikirini Jacobs, on his part, lauded the move while pointing to the influence
of youth on digital platforms, saying that social media offers a powerful tool
for raising awareness and advocating against corruption.
EACC CEO Abdi Mohamud consequently welcomed the partnership as
timely, reiterating that it aligns with the Commission’s wider strategy of
enlisting public support in the fight against graft.
