Lawyer Angela Mulwa appeared in court on Friday following her re-arrest by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) homicide detectives, as her lawyer Danstan Omari challenged the continued use of miscellaneous applications in the case.

Omari questioned why the prosecution had not brought a substantive charge against Mulwa if investigators had sufficient evidence linking her to the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso.

The lawyer's remarks came a day after Mulwa was re-arrested shortly after securing her release on a Ksh.1 million cash bail in a separate case involving an allegedly stolen Range Rover linked to the investigation into Mutiso's death.

Mulwa had been released after a Mavoko court declined a prosecution request to hold her for a further seven days as the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) considered whether to charge her.

The court had previously been dealing with miscellaneous applications seeking custodial orders as investigators pursued inquiries into vehicles allegedly linked to the murder investigation.

The prosecution has said investigations include tracing the ownership and movement of vehicles and establishing their possible connection to Mutiso's killing.

Mutiso was fatally shot on July 29 while travelling in a cab in Nairobi's Upper Hill area. The vehicle was reportedly blocked by a black Toyota Prado at the junction of Mbagathi Link Road and Mawenzi Road before gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire.

She was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
