The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has withdrawn charges against a young mother who had been arrested in connection with Wednesday's Gen Z June 25 memorial protests.
The woman, who was among the first batch of 58 suspects
presented before the court, was the only female accused and appeared in court
carrying her toddler.
The prosecution informed the court that the accused is a
young mother with a small child, prompting the withdrawal of the charges
against her.
The court proceedings also saw emotional scenes as some of
the accused persons complained of hunger while in custody.
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko was seen giving
milk to the young mother to feed her baby.
Meanwhile, when the charges were read out, all the remaining
accused persons pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawfully obstructing
vehicles along the road during the protests.
The case is expected to proceed in court as the accused seek
their release on bond.
