The Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku, has rallied residents of Mbeere South in Embu County to support the government, assuring them that the government has scaled up interventions to address the biting drought affecting the semi-arid region.

Ruku visited the drought-stricken Mbeere South Constituency, where he engaged local leaders and residents on the impact of the failed October–December 2025 short rains and outlined measures the government has put in place to cushion vulnerable families.

Mbeere South is among several areas across the country grappling with acute food shortages following the poor performance of the October–December rains, a situation that has left many households in need of urgent assistance.

During the visit, the CS led a relief food distribution exercise in Gachoka (Mbeti South) and Kauraciri (Mavuria) areas, where hundreds of families received bags of rice and beans.

He said the intervention is part of a broader national strategy to respond swiftly to hunger and protect affected communities from further hardship.

“The Government of Kenya will keep its word. No Kenyan should go to bed hungry,” Ruku said, emphasising that relief efforts will continue in drought-prone and food-insecure regions until the situation stabilises.

He noted that the Kenya Kwanza administration is prioritising food security, social protection and public service reforms as part of its wider development agenda, adding that the government remains focused on service delivery and economic empowerment.

At the same time, Ruku urged residents of the larger Mt Kenya region to remain united and aligned with the government’s programmes.

He pointed to the role of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in advancing development interests in the region, saying communities stand to benefit more through cohesion and partnership with the national government.

The CS cautioned against what he termed as divisive politics, accusing some leaders of spreading misinformation and attempting to split communities for personal gain.

He maintained that the administration of President William Ruto is firmly focused on delivering its promises and transforming livelihoods across the country.

As the exercise concluded, Ruku assured Mbeere residents that similar relief interventions would continue as the government monitors the drought situation and rolls out longer-term mitigation measures.
