Speaking in Nanyuki after a high-level security meeting, Murkomen revealed that authorities suspect police equipment may have been diverted into civilian hands.
He warned that anyone found culpable, including officers accused of colluding with civilians, will face the full force of the law.
“The Inspector General of Police is investigating all these incidents to establish whether there are civilians in possession of teargas or whether there are police officers colluding with them," CS Murkomen stated.
"The same way criminals obtain firearms, we have witnessed instances where teargas has ended up in the wrong hands.”
