COVID-19: Kenya reports 124 new cases and 6 dead, positivity rate at 1.7%

The cases are distributed across the country as follows; Nairobi 28, Uasin Gishu 19, Kisii 8, Makueni 8, Bungoma 7, West Pokot 6, Kakamega 6, Kericho 6, Siaya 5, Kiambu 4, Nakuru 4, Narok 4, Kirinyaga 3, Murang’a 3, Tharaka Nithi 2, Isiolo 2, Vihiga 1, Busia 1, Homa bay 1, Kajiado 1, Nyandarua 1, Kisumu 1, Laikipia 1, Meru 1 and Mombasa 1.
At the same time, six patients have succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits between the months of August and October 2021. As a result, the cumulative deaths are now at 5,249.
"Total recoveries now stand at 245,962 of whom 198,699 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 47,263 are from various health facilities countrywide," the MoH statement reads.
A total of 522 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,414 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.
Among the 30 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 13 are on ventilatory support and 17 on supplemental oxygen. So far, no patient is under observation.
"Another 167 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen and all of them are in the general wards. No patient is in High Dependency Units (HDU)," the Ministry explains.
Out of the cases were reported today, 80 patients have recovered from the disease with 68 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 12 are from various health facilities countrywide, the Ministry adds.
Nairobi County is the highest in vaccinations with a rate of 15.8% of its population fully vaccinated while Marsabit County is the least with less than 1% fully vaccinated.
As of October 21st, 2021, a total of 4,826,129 vaccines have so far been administered across the country. Of these, 3,457,839 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 1,368,290.
"The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033," MoH said.
