Royal Media Services veteran journalist Fred Obachi Machokaa was on Wednesday honoured by senators, who praised his illustrious career as he prepares to celebrate 50 years in the profession this weekend.

The senators, who reminisced about Machokaa and other veteran media personalities who attended the Senate afternoon session, called on Kenyans to turn up for his 50th anniversary extravaganza set for this Saturday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.

Machokaa is celebrating 50 years in the profession on October 10 this year at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.

The senators recalled some of the fond memories of how the veterans entertained them during their childhood.

“Obachi Machokaa ndiye alinifundisha Kilingala. Unasema Masango nini, Masango bien, Malamu nini, Malamu bien,” said Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka

Nyamira Senator Okong’o Mogeni added, “Fred is an iconic personality in our country. Inspector Mwala got a scramble from Bunge staff who wanted to take photos with him.”

The senators rallied Kenyans to attend his extravaganza this weekend as a show of support and appreciation for his decades of service in the industry.

“I know Fred has a big show this weekend. I already have tickets. I bought them. And I hope nobody gets a temptation to ask for free tickets,” said Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot.

Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana added, “I want to pay a special tribute Mrs. Machoka. She was my teacher at Alliance for many years. We want to tell you we love you. You have the best senator.”

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on his part, said, “I am sure if you ask Mrs Machoka who is her best senator, you may be shocked… I want to thank Hon. SK Macharia for giving them a space.”

The legislators called for more respect and opportunities for ageing personalities.

“Patia hao shahada, hawa wawekwe kwenye kamati ya entertainment. Tukipata mabalozi wa zamani wawe washauri wa Rais,” said Onyonka.
