The High Court has directed former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife, Susan Wangari, to appear in person when judgment is delivered in a Ksh.1.9 billion asset recovery case filed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Justice Nixon Sifuna issued the order after the couple failed to attend court on two previous occasions when the ruling was scheduled. The judge noted that the repeated absence of the respondents could no longer be tolerated and warned that the matter would be concluded regardless of their attendance.

“This is the final date set for delivery of the judgment, and it will proceed whether or not the respondents appear,” Justice Sifuna stated.

The case, filed at the High Court’s Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division, seeks the forfeiture of properties and assets that EACC claims were illegally obtained during Waititu’s time in public service.

The commission estimates the value of the targeted assets at about Ksh.1.9 billion.
