Siaya High Court Judge Justice Daniel Ogembo issued the order maintaining the status quo in the leadership of the Luo Council of Elders until when a case was filed by the faction which allied to Nyandiko Ongadi.
The splinter group had filed a case and obtained an order to stop the recent event dubbed ‘Piny Luo extravaganza’ which took place in Homa Bay with various cultural festivals that culminated in the election of Mzee Odungi Randa as new Chairman of the Luo Council of elders.
Despite the court order, the event went on as planned and a new chair of the Luo Council of elders Mzee Randa was elected and crowned in an event that was graced by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga.
The application that was filed under a certificate of urgency before Siaya High Court Judge Justice Daniel Ogembo had nine petitioners including Nyandiko Ongadi, Thomas Achando, Silas Olala, Okeyo Abebe, Oduogo Gwena, Margaret Nyambok, Felix Okal, Pius Odote and Stephene Oludhe.
The petitioners through their advocate Duncan Okatch have subsequently written to the Registrar of Societies to stop any alteration on the register of the Luo Council of Elders.
In his letter to the Registrar of Societies, advocate Okatch indicated that the court had clarified what status quo means, noting that it halted any changes or interference in and or with the register of the association known as Luo Council of Elders or activities pursuant to the event held on the 30th Day of June 2023 to July 1, 2023, unless any further orders have been issued to the contrary effect.
