Couple arrested in Ndhiwa for allegedly burning son’s hands over stolen fish

The incident occurred in Ramoya village, Kajwang’ Sub-Location.

According to local authorities, the couple was taken into custody on Monday evening following reports from concerned villagers.

The minor, a Grade Three pupil, is said to have suffered serious burns on his hands after his parents allegedly punished him using molten plastic.

Kajwang’ Assistant Chief Enos Nyawade, who led the arrest, said the matter was brought to his attention by neighbours alarmed by the child’s injuries.

“We established that the mother set plastic carrier bags on fire and, as the melting plastic dripped, forced the child to place his hands underneath,” Nyawade reported.

Further investigations revealed that the boy’s father had earlier compelled the child to consume the entire fish he was accused of stealing, before the mother administered the brutal punishment.

Ndhiwa Sub-County Police Commander John Losia confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspects are being held at Ndhiwa Police Station.

The couple is expected to face joint charges relating to the assault.
