Vihiga United Coach Gilbert Selebwa says he is leaving heads
high despite the relegation of the team from the National Super League.
Vihiga fell to Division One following a 1-1 draw with Luanda
Villa on Sunday. A missed penalty confirmed their drop from the National Super
League, and Selebwa is blaming six-point deduction for failing to host Nairobi
City Stars as the start of their problems.
"The rain began beating us there. That penalty miss
just confirmed what had already started," Selebwa said.
Since taking charge late in the season, Selebwa managed 3 wins,
1 draw and 2 losses. He insists Vihiga still have players who are good enough for
the Premier League and NSL.
"Vihiga have good players who will be called by top
tier teams. If accorded necessary support including funding, the team can make
a comeback to NSL after next season," he stated.
The club which was formed in 2014, won NSL promotion in 2017,
and reached the Premier League in 2018. They dropped back to NSL in 2019 after
two seasons, then to Division One this season.
The exiting coach however says his future is far from
decided.
"I will not be hasty. I will pursue greener pastures
where my welfare will be catered for properly," he said.
