The National Council of Churches of Kenya in the South Rift region is calling for unity and peaceful coexistence among Kenyans as the country prepares for the August 9th General Election.

The council through its coordinating chairman in Samburu County Retired Rev. David Lebarleiya urged political aspirants to run their political campaigns peacefully.

While reading the statement, Lebarleiya said that the church leaders shall remain committed to advocating for peace by being champions of peace in the communities by preaching peace and cohesion in the places of worship.

“The church leaders shall also commit to promote intra and inter-ethnic unity by remaining non-partisan while guiding church members to elect good leaders,” she said.

However, the council said that a number of Kenyans are suffering from hunger as a result of the drought that was being experienced in different parts of the country.

Rev. Lebarleiya asked the government to intervene in order to help families that are affected by hunger and are in need of food.
