Double Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet has set her sights on securing her first gold medal at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Chebet, who has previously won silver and bronze medals in the last two editions of the championships, shared her aspirations while attending the launch of the second edition of the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run in Eldoret. The event is scheduled for December 7, 2024.

"I want to be the first woman to bring Kenya gold in the 10,000m race. It will be a record and a piece of history that will last forever. In the future, people will remember that Beatrice was the first Kenyan woman to achieve this milestone and bring home gold," she said.

Chebet, 24, is the world record holder in the 10,000m and the gold medallist at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the discipline and in the 5,000m race, becoming the third woman in history to win both events at the same Olympic Games.

"My main target is to win that elusive World Championship gold in 2025."

During the launch of the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run in Eldoret, Athletics Kenya (AK) Nairobi Region Chairman Barnaba Korir expressed confidence that the second edition will be a major success.

"If you attended last year's event, I promise you this year will be even bigger and better. The route has been redesigned, well-marked, and secured to ensure athletes' safety and prevent injuries. It’s a fantastic course, and we encourage as many athletes as possible to participate," said Korir.

The Chepsaita event will feature various categories, including the 10km senior and junior races, masters' races, and a fun run, promising an exciting day of competition and community engagement.
