A section of youth who carried out the census exercise in Kwale County have protested the delay in payment of their dues by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) four months after the exercise.

The former officials who include content supervisors and enumerators lament that the bureau has been taking them round in circles without fulfilling their promises.

Eunice Njeri who participated in the exercise with her husband says she has been visiting the bureau offices in Nairobi in vain.

“We wanted that money to start up a business but now we have not received the cash. We want the president to intervene “she said.

Census officials around the country have complained severally over the non payment for the services that they offered during the exercise.

KNBS Director General Zachary Mwangi in November said that the participants who had not been paid made errors when providing their account details to the Bureau.

”They asked us to correct the bank details that we entered and we did as they said, we went to the CSO where we explained our issue and were told to wait.We have waited for four months and yet no action has been taken,” Kishindo, one of the officials taking part in the protest said.

Kishindo wonders how their colleagues in Mombasa have already been paid while they are still waiting for their dues.
