Tanzania will host this year’s Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Kagame Cup from July 2 to August 4.

The annual extravaganza that features top-flight champions from the 12 members associations, including Zanzibar, is returning after a two-year hiatus.

Four other invited teams will take part in the tournament.

According to CECAFA Executive Director John Auka Gecheo, the tournament will act as a perfect dry runner for the CAF-Champions League.

“We are glad that this tournament will be returning after two years to provide a brilliant preseason platform for the teams to prepare better before the start of the 2024/2025CAF Champions League, CAF Confederations Cup and the different Leagues back home."

Uganda's Express FC beat guest side Nyasa Big Bullets from Malawi 1-0 in the final when the tournament was last held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 2021.

Tanzanian side Simba SC has hoisted the title for a record six times, one more than compatriots Young Africans SC and Tusker FC (Kenya).

Other winners include APR FC (Rwanda), Al Merriekh (Sudan), and SC Villa (Uganda), and Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC have won it three times.
