Representing Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Rwanda, and Namibia, delegates convened under the theme "Redefining Africa: Africa as a brand" to explore how strategic communication can redefine the continent’s narrative, reputation, and global influence.
On the sidelines of the summit, Brand South Africa hosted a masterclass titled "Nation Branding and Shaping Perspectives on Africa's Global Narrative, Reputation and Influence."
The session emphasized the need for African nations to take active ownership of their narratives, counter negative global perceptions, and highlight stories of growth, progress, and development.
Brand South Africa, the official marketing agency of the South African government, demonstrated how strategic storytelling and deliberate messaging enhance competitiveness, investment, tourism, and national pride.
"Brand alignment is more than just corporate identity compliance," said Jimmy Ranamane, General Manager for Global Markets at Brand South Africa. "It's about creating a consolidated and cohesive country messaging framework."
Key priorities outlined during the session included integrating nation branding into national policy processes, marketing countries as top tourism destinations, and actively engaging stakeholders who impact national reputation.
Brand South Africa encouraged participants to leverage native cultural strengths; such as heritage, tourism assets, financial infrastructure, and sports, to create emotive, memorable slogans, logos, and brand propositions.
