The body of a Maasai Mara University student who fell and drowned in the Enkare-Narok river with a female colleague last week was recovered from the depths on Sunday evening.

Until their tragic deaths, Eric Mutuku and Esther Kiamaiga were second- and first-year students, respectively, studying Human Resources and Education.

While Mutuku's body has been recovered, the search for Kiamaiga continues, with the rescue operation becoming more difficult due to the freezing temperatures.

To relieve the strain on divers, a bonfire was lit at the location where the two drowned, providing warmth for rescue teams.

Despite attempts to obtain comments from the grieving families present at the scene, their anguish prevented them from speaking.

However, a university representative assured the public of upcoming updates, promising a comprehensive report by Monday.

Meanwhile, Eric Mutuku's body has been moved to the Narok Referral Hospital, as his family comes to terms with the tragedy.
