Body of 15-year-old girl who drowned in Kirinyaga recovered

The body of a 15-year-old girl who drowned in Kimbimbi, Mwea Constituency in Kirinyaga County has been retrieved.
The unfortunate incident saw Joy Wanjiru drown at Gatitika Falls in River Nyamindi on Sunday.
Residents from Kimbimbi, Gatitika, Mathangauta, Ngucue, and Red Soil, led by the girl’s father, Danson Njue, spent nights in the river searching for her.
"Joy was accompanied by her friend when she slipped and fell at Gatitika Falls. Her male friend, from Red Soil Village, reported the incident at Kimbimbi Police Post. I was later informed by police,” he said.
According to bodaboda operators at Kimbimbi Trading Centre led by Simon Waweru and Irungu Mwangi, the body was found floating by a resident who was crossing the river.
Paul Muriithi, another resident, added that the body was recovered following government intervention after water levels receded last night.
The body has been taken to the mortuary by officers from Wang'uru police station.
