Riders from Bike Tribe Kenya based in Nairobi Eastlands on Sunday took up the challenge of riding in under 5 hours in a distance of 135km.

The riding started early morning from Nairobi County and passed through Machakos County then ended at Wote town in Makueni County.

The riders finished in three groups with the first batch timing 3 hours 37 minutes, Group 2 clocking 4 hours 15 minutes and the last group 5 hours 3 minutes.

Speaking after finishing the race, Charles Njonjo, the group chair, said that they overcame’ a good challenge’ hence a plus for the riders finishing within the challenge time.

“The aim was to see where cycling has reached during this time of Corona,” he said, while also encouraging Kenyans to take up riding so as to boost their immune system.

The first to finish was Zach Munyuri who said it was a challenge to beat the distance, adding that the race was tough with ‘terrible hills’ thus more of a mental challenge.

Some of the races Munyuri has participated in are Tours de Machakos, JRVC in Iten, Southern By-pass Individual Trial, Tatu City Individual Trial among others.

Joseph Thuku, alias ‘Bobby’, said that the race was really tough though he beat the time.

Bike Tribe Kenya started as an adventure group in 2016 through friends who decided to take up the cycling challenge by touring different towns in Kenya.

Over time it has attracted many, becoming a major pastime activity.
