With just hours remaining before the kickoff of the 2026/2027 Women’s National Super League (WNSL) season, Bandari Queens have boldly declared their intent to contend for the league title and secure automatic promotion to the Kenya Women’s Premier League.

The Mombasa-based side have suffered heartbreak twice in their pursuit of top-flight football, finishing second and missing out via the promotion playoffs in their inaugural attempt, followed by a third-place finish last season.

Seeking divine guidance ahead of their new campaign, Bandari Queens held a Mass service at the Holy Ghost Cathedral in Mombasa on Friday.

The team will open their season on Saturday against Kwale County’s Diani Queens at the Mbaraki Sports Club.

Head coach Jonathan Maraga Washe expressed confidence in his side, noting that a productive pre-season has set the foundation for their promotion ambitions.

“We are officially starting the new season tomorrow and we are all psyched up. We had a very successful pre-season, and what I can promise now is that we are all going for the WNSL trophy and automatic promotion to the Women’s Kenyan Premier League,” said Maraga.

The club has heavily reinforced its squad with 12 new signings, including several international players from neighbouring countries.

Team captain Florida Bokole emphasized the squad's determination to finally cross the finish line this season.

“To our fans, we promise you a better season. We have to do it this time around. We have new players and we have the best chemistry ever. This season will be different,” she said.

Holy Ghost Cathedral priest Patrick Kazungu blessed the players and offered prayers for their safety and success in the upcoming campaign.

“I am happy Bandari Queens came to the church before the season starts. We are blessing their new season and praying to God for protection throughout as they fight for promotion to the top league.”
