Tired of endless traffic jams, rising costs, and crowded streets, many Kenyans are finding comfort in the slower rhythms of rural life - where peace, space, and simplicity offer an escape from the chaos of urban life.

For many Kenyans, the desire is simply to slow down and find peace amidst the chaos of the city street.

Kenyan lifestyle YouTuber Makori Moraa is among those who have traded the buzz of Nairobi for the calm of her hometown in Kisumu. On her channel, she captures the beauty of rural landscapes in contrast to the noise and congestion of the city.

“I wanted peace more than anything. I didn’t want the loud clubs or hustle life,” she says in her channel.  “I just wanted peace, birds, clean air, slow mornings and long walks.”

Furthermore, many people believe that the serenity offers a stress relief. Another Kenyan YouTuber, Lavender Awiti, deep in the highland of Kisiis, defines the countryside as calm and chill with great outdoor views.

“Year of freedom, peace, independence, control and beautiful moments and challenges in equal measure,” she said.

The slower pace of rural life appeals to many; no constant pressure of deadlines, traffic, or overcrowded schedules. It encourages healthier habits – eating fresh foods, long walks, outdoor time - which contribute to physical well-being and peace of mind.

In a comment on the Khaome_Ke YouTube channel, Abisai Amatalo shared that he has never regretted moving to the rural areas, noting the peace that came with the countryside lifestyle.

“Life today has a meaning. I eat organic foods; my health has greatly improved,” Amatalo noted.

Yet another Kenyan YouTuber, Gile Oji, in an interview with Lynn Ngugi, noted the peace and fulfillment that comeS with the countryside lifestyle.

“My life in the city was a bit chaotic, I really wanted some peace, relaxing environment,” she said. “I felt I needed more relaxing, something that would make me spend more time with the people I love.”

Space is another influential factor that draws people out of urban centers. Cities are often overcrowded, with small apartments.

In contrast, rural life offers wide fields, open farms, and the freedom to live without daily struggle of navigating crowded streets and public areas. In addition, families can afford larger homes at lower costs, and children enjoy the freedom to play outdoors.

In a past interview Davis Sokoto, a resident of Lifestyle Heights, stressed on the benefits of moving to the rural area, describing it as spacious, calm, and peaceful.

“Moving away from the city and clutter of the city, I opt for a place (that is) nice and chilled out,” he said. “There is a space for the kids to play and it is a home of a touch with calmness and peace.”

According to YouTuber Khaome_Ke, the countryside offers more land for farming, construction and raising children.

“In the village the soil is great for farming, great environment for raising children and with more development in term of roads, school and hospital,” said Khaome.

Rural life is more than just an escape from the city; it is the slow choice to embrace peace, space and simplicity. The countryside stands as a reminder that the most fulfilling life is often found in quiet places.
