'Back to private sector,' Moses Kuria concedes defeat in Kiambu Governor race

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria appears to have thrown in the towel in the battle for the Kiambu Governor race way ahead of the declaration of the final results.

In what is seen as an early conceding of defeat, Kuria, through his official Facebook account said he had enjoyed serving the people of Gatundu in his capacity as MP and is now ready to focus on private business.

“I enjoyed every minute of my 8 years in elective politics. Back to private sector. Happily," said Kuria at 11:25pm on Tuesday.

Kuria, who was vying for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat under the Chama Cha Kazi party alongside six other candidates was seeking to unseat incumbent Kiambu Governor James Nyoro who was seeking re-election.

The other candidates included former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo (Tujibebe Party), former Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi (UDA), Patrick Wainaina Wa Jungle (independent), Juliet Kimemia (KANU) and Mwende Gatabaki (Safina Party).

Kuria was elected Gatundu South MP unopposed through a by-election in 2014 following the death of then MP, the late Jossy Ngugi.

In July, Kuria accused Kiambu politicians with ties to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) of ganging up against his governorship bid.

Kuria accused his so-called- detractors of suspending their campaigns to drum up support for Wamatangi who is also eyeing the County's top seat at the August polls.
