'Baba Wanja': Man filmed assaulting a woman in Kamakis detained for 14 days

Isaac Ochalo, who was arrested a day before his arraignment, has been charged with assault causing bodily harm.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Ruiru Police Commander Charles Kibathi said the court granted detectives 14 days to hold the suspect for further investigations and interrogation.

He will be held at Gatong'ora Police Station in the meantime.

According to a police report, Teresia Wambui Wairimu, a resident of Thika Town, was assaulted on Sunday evening while visiting her cousin in the Kamakis area of Ruiru.

Wairimu told police that she arrived at her cousin's home at around 6pm, when her cousin's husband, identified as Isaac Gatuthu Ocharo, allegedly assaulted her.

Police officers who visited the scene established that the suspect had been quarrelling with his wife when Wairimu intervened.

He allegedly turned on her and physically assaulted her.

Wairimu was later referred to Ruiru Level 4 Hospital for a medical examination. Her condition has not been made public.
