Funds raised during the Kenya Association of Air Operators (KAAO) Aviation Sports Day 2026 will support aspiring aviation professionals who may be unable to meet the cost of training, examinations and licensing.
The event, held in Nairobi, brought together pilots, engineers, air traffic controllers and other aviation professionals for sports, networking and fundraising.
Supporting the initiative, fly748.com Head of Scheduled Services George Oduor said the cost of training remains a significant barrier for many talented young people seeking to enter the aviation industry.
“Every pilot, engineer and aviation professional started with a dream. For many talented young Kenyans, however, the cost of turning that dream into a career remains a major barrier,” Oduor said.
He said industry players have a role to play in creating opportunities for young people regardless of their financial circumstances.
“Aviation is a team effort in every sense. From the cockpit and engineering hangar to air traffic control, airports and ground operations, the industry depends on people working together,” he said.
Oduor said initiatives such as the sports day also provide an opportunity for professionals across different areas of the industry to build relationships while supporting a common cause.
Aviation training, particularly for aspiring pilots, can involve substantial costs covering flight instruction, examinations, licensing and other regulatory requirements.
Oduor said developing a skilled workforce would be important as Kenya expands air connectivity and the aviation sector's role in tourism, trade and regional business.
“We can expand fleets and open new routes, but that growth must be supported by people with the skills to operate, maintain and manage the aviation industry,” he said.
“Supporting young people today is therefore an investment in the aviation industry we want to build for tomorrow.”
